N8 Research Partnership: Food security, Regener8 Conference and Co-production

Welcome to the latest news from the N8 Research Partnership.

This is a farewell newsletter for me, as I’ll be moving on to pastures new in November to take up a new role as Director of Research, Partnerships and Innovation at the University of Liverpool.

Over the last five years, I have felt privileged to work alongside my colleagues at the N8 universities; it has been a fantastic role to undertake, and a job that I’ve really loved. If you’re interested in applying for the N8 Director’s post, act soon, as we are currently hiring!

The N8 is about creating a collaborative spirit between academics and research users, from initiatives such as Regener8 (which is hosting its annual conference next week), to the ground-breaking Industry Innovation Forum, which bring partners together, often from very different industries and research areas, to drive new, step-changing innovations. The next event, which focuses on Food Security, promises to be very exciting indeed – we’ll keep you updated on its outcomes.

Meanwhile, the new Co-production study, which we highlight here, is yet another example of the N8’s diverse interests, and intention to push the boundaries of research.

I wish the N8 Research Partnership, and everyone who has worked with it, the very best for the future, and look forward to seeing it go from strength to strength.

I hope you enjoy reading our latest news. As ever, please do get in touch if you have any feedback.

Sarah Jackson,

Director, N8 Research Partnership

Regener8’s Annual Conference is just days away!

A limited number of delegate places are still available for the Regener8 Annual Conference, which will take place on September 17 at the University of Leeds.

The high profile conference will provide the unique opportunity to learn how regenerative medicine research is being translated into clinical benefits for patients.

The event will focus on ‘The Pathway to Innovation for Regenerative Therapies’ and will feature some of the latest research being carried out in the field of Regenerative Medicine.

Focusing on food security

Achieving a Sustainable Food will be the theme of the N8’s next Industry Innovation Forum (IIF) event, to take place in York on October 7.

Following on from the highly successful Industry Innovation Forums on Advanced Materials, Active and Healthy Ageing and Industrial Biotechnology, October’s event aims to create new opportunities for co-operation between academic experts and industry, and drive new innovations in Food Security and Technology – a key research strength of the N8.

It’s set to stimulate debate, foster new partnerships and, if anything like our previous events, will lead to some highly exciting collaborations.

Co-production – transforming social sciences research

A new study to explore the potential of knowledge ‘co-production’ between researchers and non-academics has been launched by the N8.

We’ve received funding from the Economic and Social Research Council to work with industry partners, the policy community and the voluntary sector to examine how co-production can shape approaches to social sciences research.

Co-production has the potential to change the way social sciences research is conducted and applied, and this project aims to enhance the value of social sciences research to new and existing research users.
