The N8 Energy Research Centre is focused on exploiting the research excellence and the physical and commercial assets relating to energy in the North of England.

N8 collaborative research is concentrated on three themes - Carbon Capture and Storage, Smart Grids and Offshore Wind.

In each of these themes, the N8 universities can offer the range of science, technology and socio-economic expertise required to successfully develop and deploy new systems in these areas.

The N8 universities are working with many of the large industrial companies in these fields, including Siemens, Electricity Northwest and Scottish and Southern Energy.

The N8 approach is focused on combining the "best with best" from across the eight universities to create multidisciplinary teams required to address the energy challenge.
