Regener8 and METRC Members Shortlisted for Healthcare Awards

27 October 2011

Regener8 member Reinnervate and METRC member QuantuMDX have been shortlisted for two categories at the Cels Business for Life Awards 2011.

The Awards celebrate the achievements of the Healthcare and Life Sciences Sector in the North of England in areas such as Innovation and Outstanding Growth. These awards not only recognise and reward the North of England’s top companies in the industry but also promote new technologies and companies to the region’s healthcare sector.

Reinnervate was set up by scientists at Durham University. They have developed novel artificial skin constructs for routine use in research, screening and compound testing programmes.  Funding and support from Regener8, via the N8 Research Partnership (a collaboration of the North’s 8 research-intensive universities) helped Reinnervate to develop their products, which are being sold worldwide, supporting the growth of skin cells derived from human stem cells and so allowing a consistent supply of material for investigative research in this important therapeutic area.

QuantuMDx Group is emerging as one of the most exciting diagnostics and sequencing companies to take the global stage and is set to develop the world’s first hand-held DNA Sequencer capable of supporting the rapid delivery of personalised medicine across both developed and developing nations.

METRC have been working with QuantuMDx to provide them with access to world leading research in the N8 universities, which has helped them to develop technology that could eventually mature into the world’s first handheld DNA sequencer, capable of supporting the rapid delivery of personalised medicine across both developed and developing nations

Reinnervate and QuantuMDX will go head to head as they are both shortlisted for the Technology Award, which is awarded for the development of a new or existing technology resulting in actual or potential substantial improvements in the Healthcare and Life Sciences sector, either financial, environmental or service.

Prof. Stefan Przyborski of Reinnervate is also nominated for the HealthConnect Award, which recognises individuals who have made a significant contribution the healthcare and life science sector.

QuantuMDX are also shortlisted for the Innovation award, which is awarded for the development of an innovative, design and / or process or service that has produced a major improvement in business performance, end user and / or patient benefit.
