Life sciences as a smart specialism for the North East will be a major focus at a conference in Newcastle next week.
Dr Peter Simpson, Director of the N8 Research Partnership (pictured), will be speaking at the Bionow Life Science and Healthcare Showcase Conference on healthcare and life sciences in the North East. Dr Simpson will also chair a session on HEIs working with industry to deliver economic impact.
The Bionow Life Science and Healthcare Showcase Conference, to be held at the International Centre for Life on July 7, will focus on the latest technologies, innovations, key sector initiatives and funding opportunities in the industry. The programme will include informative plenary sessions featuring industry leaders and innovators, who will speak on industry challenges and topical issues, as well as featuring presentations from major companies.
Dr Simpson will focus on the potential of life sciences as a smart specialism for the North East, the benefits of this and how it may be achieved.
Dr Simpson said: “The Bionow event marks the beginning of wider consultation on the North East Life Sciences strategy and I’d urge anyone with an interest in the sector in the North East to attend The Life Science and Healthcare Showcase Conference.
“A working group has begun to identify aspects of life sciences as a smart specialism area that the North East could develop as a regional asset and strength.
“We are now seeking views from regional companies and stakeholders to build a more detailed plan of action over the summer, and the conference will give interested parties the chance to learn more about the life sciences opportunity in the North East.”
